Special Olympics

The Houston Yacht Club has supported the Space Center Rockets, a Special Olympics Texas team, since 2004. Many local intellectually disabled sailors have been through this program. The sailors practice at HYC in club-owned Flying Scots and compete each year in the state regatta. The team has sent coaches and sailors to the SO World Games to compete in sailing and kayaking.

The Rockets kayakers are very active and practice in the harbor and the bay. State level competitions for both sports are hosted at HYC on a regular basis.
