URGENT NOTICE TO ALL HYC MEMBERS WITH BOATS IN THE HYC HARBOR

Dear Members:

I am pleased to inform you that the marine contractor the Board of Trustees selected to work on our harbor cleanup, demolition and reconstruction is currently moving equipment into the Harbor. So, while many harbors are still trying to contract for this work, ours is underway.

In order to protect all boats in the Harbor to the maximum extent possible, the Flag today approved the actions outlined below. Please keep in mind that we are doing everything possible to make sure that if you have a boat in the harbor that is undamaged, or otherwise poses no risk to any other boat, Club property or the environment, that you will at all times have space somewhere in the HYC harbor that is safe and secure.

The Harbor is one of our finest assets, and it is the home for your vessel. We intend on keeping that home as a safe harbor for you throughout the duration of this work.

Actions approved by the Flag

1. Boats that are sunk, and boats that are floating but are unstable, or have been deemed a total loss need to be removed from the harbor as soon as possible. This is an urgent requirement. The Club is not responsible for this work; it is the responsibility of each member's insurance company. Please inform your insurance company and your adjuster that contractors will be commencing work in the harbor by the end of this week.
2. Effective immediately, Pier 14 and Pier 3 have been established as boat storage areas. These areas do not have walkways, finger piers or any decking. There are only pilings. Once the boats have been moved to these locations, access will be by boat only. The Club will provide limited taxi service to these storage areas.
3.  As the first order of business, our marine contractor will clear paths through the major harbor fairways so as to be able to move boats and be assured that no boat will be damaged by underwater debris.
4.  As soon as fairways are cleared sufficiently, debris, if any, from the pier 14 slips will be cleared.
5.  Once the fairways and pier 14 are cleared (expected to be completed by Friday at noon), all members with boats in the harbor that do not need to be removed (see #1 above) will have until 5:00 PM this coming Sunday to move their boats, with assistance from Club personnel. Club personnel will determine where boats will be tied up. If you plan on moving your boat, send an email to Larry Simpson, our Harbor Chairman, informing him of your plans. Please include your name, your boat name, and your likely time for moving the boat. Larry's email address is:  lsimpson@consolidated.net
6.  Starting Monday morning club staff will commence moving boats that have not been already moved by their owner. Every member whose boat will be moved by club staff will receive one phone call from a representative of the Harbor Committee in advance of their boat being moved.
7.  Over time, if we can orchestrate it, some of the larger boats may be accommodated in the inner harbor as we proceed with work. However, there is currently so much floating debris around most of the boats that the water action to be caused by our contractor will put boats at risk for at least a month, likely longer.
8.  Every member that is working with their insurance company should inform their insurance company that demolition and cleanup is beginning in the harbor.
