PATH FORWARD COMMITTEE OF THE HOUSTON YACHT CLUB
Progress Report #8

October 24, 2008

Greetings:

I want to remind every member that this Sunday, October 26 at 3:00 PM in the ballroom, the PFC is holding its final Member Input Meeting. This meeting will last approximately 45 minutes, ending at 3:45.

At the Member Input Meeting you can express your views as to the items you would like to see addressed in the harbor rebuild.

The format of the Member Input Meeting will be quite simple.

1.      We ask that you limit the length of your comments to no more than three minutes, to allow as many members as possible to speak.
2.      The PFC will ask clarifying questions as necessary, but will not react to any suggestions, as the purpose of this meeting is to get member input, not to have an active dialogue or debate about the merits of any suggestions.
3.      The PFC will have a note taker at the meeting to document the questions that are asked.

I want to also provide to you several updates.

First, notwithstanding the efforts of numerous folks, FEMA has not yet determined that the cost of haul-off of our harbor debris qualifies for reimbursement under their regulations. Therefore, you will continue to see a large collection of pilings and other debris in front of the Club. Please continue to be careful as you drive up to the Club entrance.

Second, the demolition of the inner harbor is moving along briskly. Piers 9 and 10 are gone, as is the portion of pier 11 beyond the taller pilings. It is our expectation that, by early next week, our contractor will be removing the inner slips on Pier 12. Therefore, it is imperative that those of you with boats on pier 12 move them to pier 14 or pier 3 this weekend. Boats not relocated by Monday AM will be relocated by Club staff at that time.

Third, at tomorrow's Board Meeting the PFC will be making numerous recommendations to the Board regarding a variety of harbor work. This work will be related to the rebuilding efforts for the covered sheds on piers 12, 9 and 2, along with the proposed new covered sheds on piers 12 and the old pier 3. Recall that this work was part of the initial recommendations made by the PFC and it was conceptually approved by the Board and announced to the membership. Assuming that the recommendations the PFC makes tomorrow are adopted by the Board, we hope to see work commencing in one or more of these areas by Thanksgiving.

On behalf of the Path Forward Committee,

John Peter
