PATH FORWARD COMMITTEE OF THE HOUSTON YACHT CLUB
Progress Report #4

October 4, 2008

Greetings:

The PFC is excited to report to you that the Board of Trustees, at its Special Meeting held today, approved our recommendation for our first large-scale volunteer rebuild project.

This first project will involve rebuilding the Beachcomber!!!

The exact timing is not yet set, as our contractor first has to demo the existing facility, after which he will assess the need for, and drive, new and additional pilings (which may currently be in short supply in the area).

Tim Broadhead has agreed to do the architectural work on this project, up to and including the creation of a bill of materials.

The PFC will "recruit" a project lead who can arrange for crew chiefs and volunteers, keeping in mind that we must do this project in as safe a manner as possible.

This is a large project which will take several weekends to complete once started. Additionally, we will build new picnic tables as the last part of this project, and there will be more details about that to come.

I also want to report to you that the PFC is working on a timeline to assess the issues surrounding the use of floating piers in the harbor. Like so much of what we are doing, this is a work in process; but we are underway. I do not yet know what the timeline looks like, but will communicate that as it becomes more evident.

On behalf of the Path Forward Committee,

John Peter
